This is one of those times when I wish I just had a bit of pocket change, even just a 'Nickel', I didn't need! There's a copy on eBay (it's 2nd edition, but I'm not that picky) and I wantz it sooooooo bad. But $55.00 is fifty-five dollars I do not have to spend. *sobs**counts pennies* "When it comes to troubleI'm the king of all that"Read it for free here.Tom Waits: A Love Affair With MusicI recall with crystal clarity the first time I heard'Chocolate Jesus'. 2. A ten-page lyric, perhaps, more than poetry. I can hear the missing-ness of the music louder than the words. Sometimes it's the tragic dirge of 'Dirt in the Ground' (I swear I hear those same rhythms here, and that it's not just prompted by the shared word.) Others, the twangy voice and percussion of 'Big in Japan' and 'Filipino Box Spring Hog'. Maybe what plays in your head depends what your favourites are. I like what it's saying, but it would be more subtle with music. Subtle might be better [...]

    3. I always expect too much of the poetry from musicians I adore. Anywho, read for yourself:flickr/photos/3908719

    4. One long poem, which I keep rereading. He treats the case of a homeless man, with a dignity and questioning not surprising for Tom Waits, knowing his songwriting. SOme of his questions could as easily be applied to anyone, like the implications of this statement, "My parents were good people/ Shirley and Raymond/They prayed for a child/Just like me" Powerful work.

    5. Human. For me, that's the most suitable description of the poem. It reminds the reader that we are all people, just some of us do it unimaginably tough out on the streets.

    6. I am fortunate to have a SEEDS ON HARD GROUND limited 2nd printing copy of this Tom Waits work, thanks to my sister & brother in-law!It was a really good poem book for a really good cause.

    7. Very short, but very powerful. Every line makes it even more deep and it makes you wanna keep reading.

    8. Elskede den, bogen bygger på hjemløse og er flow af ord der flyder præcis som lyrik bør. Ordvalget er unikt og pointerne knivskarpe. Absolut lækker læsning!
