    1. This book was something else. I'll start with the outside and work my way in so I can form the right words for what I want to say about Kings & Queens. The cover is gorgeous. I love the colors, I love the slight grunge feel to it with the text and brushes. The lips and everything about the cover sums up what you'll get to look forward to in the book. Confused? You should be.I think the best way for me to describe the book is quirky. "Beautifully unique" would be another term I'd use. I just [...]

    2. I thought this book was AMAZING, the plot had me hooked and would not let me go until the very end and even when I had finished I just could not stop thinking about it. Majesty Alistair is just an average teenage girl with a normal life until she over hears some of her fellow students planning a church massacre. Unable to go to the police, majesty feels she only has one choice – to discover herself who she overheard and to stop the massacre before it happens. Little by little majesty discovers [...]

    3. Originally Reviewed at:Mother/Gamer/WriterRating: 2 out of 5 ControllersReview Source: Blog TourReviewer: AimeeKayI’m not happy with this book. I expected more, especially seeing its banners everywhere lately and people gushing over the cover, I expected a lot more. I will say I was kind of hesitant about the whole love triangle part of the story, but as it turned out that was the least of my worries.First I really had issues with the main character. She just did such dumb, and I mean dumb, th [...]

    4. I have to say that I loved this book. The prologue is really kind of allegorical in nature, and as you progress through the book, you begin to understand what Courtney Vail was depicting. After reading the ending, you can appreciate the prologue and its meaning even more. I even went back and read the prologue again, and I have to say that I gained a whole new appreciation for Courtney Vail's writing style. The story centers around Majesty Alistair, and her two best friends Derek and Alec, both [...]

    5. I'm quite disappointed in this book. A pity, but that's what happens when you judge a book by its cover, I suppose. In my humble opinion, it's written like a mediocre fan fiction. The dialog sounds forced between characters, characters who I immediately didn't relate to. One of the reviewers commented on the use of language, saying that it's "how teenagers talk." I'm only a year out of my teens, & no one's speech habits or word choices have irritated me as greatly as these characters did.Plot [...]

    6. "That's the "They'll learn how dead and buried their Jesus is when.n't helpart shooting up the church. Haven't many I wanna off yet. Needs to be sicktional coverage."When Majesty leaned forward to try and see who was talking, a twig snapped under her feet. She knew they knew she was there so she took off running. They recognized the Colts shirt from the school baseball team. That meant they were part of the school. She knew no one would believe her if she told what she heard, so she recruited Al [...]

    7. It took me a lot longer to read this book than it usually takes me. I had a really hard time getting into it--it just felt too jumpy to me and that made it really hard for me to focus. Overall, though, I found that I did enjoy it by the time I got to the end. While it takes some time to get used to the writing style and pacing, the story moves very quickly. There were periods when I felt too much detail was being given in a short amount of time, and that made it feel a bit cramped and sloppy, bu [...]

    8. WOW, I started out not wanting to finish this and ended up not being able to put it down. Great story, very twisted, and I had no clue who the culprit(s) were, until it was revealed.

    9. This book was not what I expected. To be honest it wasn't even close to what I expected it was going to be!! However I ended up really enjoying it and to honestly I didn't want to put it down because I wanted to know what was going to happen next. Every time I thought that the next page would allow me to put this book down and come back to it, things would pick right back up and I would be hooked again!! The first few chapters were a little hard for me because I wasn't quite sure where it was go [...]

    10. MICHELLE'S REVIEW:RATING: 5 ADDICTIVE DEREK STARS!!Curveballs are woven masterfully through this energetic read. I went through a lot of emotions reading this book. At first I felt confused with the Prologue. Then the story kicks in like I should really know the characters and where I am at. Now I am not criticising as this is a most exciting read, but it just takes the reader a bit to get their bearings. But that is Courtney's style of writing, getting us to learn along with the characters. It [...]

    11. Kings & Queens seemed more like a written version of the games "Who Dun'It" and "Clue. I liked it, there was mystery, betrayal, intrigue, romance, murder; and Majesty Alistair gets smacked right in the middle of it all. Who does she trust when all the fingers seem to point at everyone closest to her? And can she stop the killers in time before someone she loves is dead? When Majesty Alistair gets kidnapped and is forced to watch a church massacre, her world falls into a tailspin. She's being [...]

    12. Kings & Queens takes place in a time period of 6 weeks, 5 months after Majesty's father dies. Majesty is still raw from the whole ordeal and is trying very hard to go on in life without being irritated by her mother's new friend, Paul and the fact that she's in love with one of her best friends, Derek. In fact, Alec, the other best friend, is the only person keeping her on her toes, patient and just being there for her.The way Kings & Queens begins will surely take the reader on a confus [...]

    13. Majesty Alistair goes to Cedar Creek High where she helps manage the Colts baseball team and is in drama club. She is secretly in love with her best friend Derek McCarthy. She is also best friends with Alec. Majesty has not been the same since her father's death a couple of months ago. Majesty has befriended Warren Niles who is an outcast and freak to the rest of the school. Warren is not who he appears to be even to his best friend Jase. Both Warren and Derek of things that are not possible or [...]

    14. This book is much unlike anything I've read, certainly a more fast paced and gritty YA novel than most. I am still gathering my thoughts on Kings & Queens, a lot happens in the month and a half timeframe that this book is set. If you are looking for a suck-you-in, gotta-pay-attention, don't-wanna-miss a moment story; look no further, Kings & Queens is for you. The first two chapters didn't have me convinced but as I read on I let go of my doubts and ended up enjoying it. This will defini [...]

    15. Honestly I have no idea if I liked or not this book.I though the first 3 or so chapters we boring and it crossed more than once form my mind to quit reading it.I would prefer if the author had explained some things cause it would make it easier to understand the book. After a while the book started to get slightly interesting but there were parts which I hated. Some parts of the book were predictable(like the fact that Majesty has a crush on Derek who is her best friend and he doesn't know it and [...]

    16. If it wasn't for the heavy confusion throughout I'd gladly give this book 5 stars. I kept thinking I was missing something obvious and that so much of the first half made no sense- random thoughts like psychotic issues. What I did fully comprehend I really liked though! And then after something really awful happened I freakin bawled like nothing I ever have because of a book before. Not crying, but sobbing The kind where snot mixes with your tears and runs down your face! Getting a visual? Yeah, [...]

    17. This book was hard for me to get into at first but I forced myself into it for a couple chapters and then I was hooked. I read it in just a couple days. I really really liked that after the one main twist it wasn't over yet there were still quite a few twists to go so the book didn't get boring. I read the book in 3 sittings and was a little bit sad when it was over. I definitely recommend this book and hope that you will sincerely give it a shot. I don't want to give anything away but it was qu [...]

    18. Kings & Queens by Courtney Vail is a cute young adult mystery novel- and check out that cover! I love the lips and colors. The beginning of the book is a little bit confusing, the voice of the author's writing confused me for awhile. Though after getting past the initial confusion, the plot is actually very interesting- it kept me reading. I love a good mystery and ended up smitten with Vail's writing style. The story and the characters are supremely complex. Majesty herself is eccentric, ind [...]

    19. I received a copy of Kings & Queens from Shut Up and Read's group on . Thank you! The reviews have been excellent so far. This took a while to get into the story. That can be a problem because if I hadn't signed up to review it, I may have abandoned my efforts. About 75% through my Smashreads copy, there were some problems with my text. Jumbled and laying over itself It may have just been my copy or Ipad, but it happened a few times in that section so I thought I would mention it. This was a [...]

    20. I enjoyed reading this book. I wasn't thrilled with the love triangle. Maj couldn't seem to make up her mind which guy she wanted. There were weird elements in the book. Maj isn't even sure she can trust her best friends. Her problems started with the death of her father. Maj is sure he was murdered but can't get the police to investigate further. To make it worse, her last words to him were said in anger. There are several twists and turns in the book. It will keep you reading trying to figure o [...]

    22. Kings & Queens by Courtney VailSeventeen-year-old Majesty Alistair wants police to look further into her father’s fatal car wreck, hopes the baseball team she manages can reclaim the state crown, aches for Derek…or, no…maybe Alec…maybe. And she mostly wishes to retract the hateful words she said to her dad right before slamming the door in his face, only to never see him again. All her desires get sidelined, though, when she overhears two fellow students planning a church massacre. S [...]

    23. This book got off to a slow, and slightly confusing, start. It took me a while to orientate myself within the story… I never quite got there though and it is for this reason that I must start this discussion with a disclaimer: I was unable to finish this book. So this isn’t a review, but a reflection of my thoughts on the 47% (I checked) of the book that I did get through.I feel like I should start with the good. Kings & Queens has a very unique and intriguing plot. There is a lot of mys [...]

    24. *3.5 out of 5 starsI think my first thought would be interesting, and maybe slightly confusing. I will admit that the first few chapters I was like, "What is going on?" but after getting into the book it was great!! I liked the mystery element to it, the twists to the story, and the characters. I am usually pretty good at solving mysteries, but I will say that this book really did keep me guessing until almost the end. Evey one seems suspect, but then you think that certain people couldn't possi [...]

    26. originally appeared on:Bookshelf ConfessionsCover: I loved the cover with its eerie way. I love the fusion of colors, the gothic text and brushes. But actually the lips did it for me. Cool!Review: I admit, I was a bit confused reading the first pages. There was what we call information overload, like the author wanted to give us a heads-up on what was going on in the book. But after getting past it, I was confusedly hooked with the story. The book was written with rich detail. The story itself ha [...]

    27. Source: Received from author courtesy of the Teen Book Scene. Many thanks goes to Courtney Vail and Teen Book Scene for sending me a copy of this book for review. I received this book free of charge in exchange for an honest review. My rating: 3/5Majesty overhears part of a conversation that involves plans for a church massacre. She has a lot going on in her life at the moment, having just recently lost her father in an accident. She doesn't think it was an accident, but is having a hard time pr [...]

    28. Like a Teenage Melrose Place Sped UpMajesty is a girl of action with a number of problems to solve. She manages her high school's baseball team (on a winning streak), is convinced that her father's death wasn't an accident, overhears a plot to gun down a church service and is unsure how to alert the police, and is bouncing back and forth as to which of her two best friends she is in love. And, of course, her mom has a new, peculiar boyfriend ( a situation about which she feels a bit Hamlet-y.)Th [...]

    29. ***OBTAINED FROM A LIBRARYTHING GIVEAWAY*** WOW. The description for this book on GoodReads does not do this book justice. This was an AWESOME, twisted, capturing tale. Like Gossip Girl with deadly consequences. Seventeen year old Majesty Alistair has had her share of hardship in her young life; five months back she lost her Dad and while the police suspected an accident, Majesty knows that's not the answer and she's determined to find out who killed her father. She's also the Team Manager of he [...]

    30. In the beginning of Kings and Queens we meet Majesty, a no-nonsense, baseball loving, girl, who has recently lost her father. Cutting through the woods after baseball one evening, she over-hears two boys in paint ball masks plotting a mass shooting. The boys notice Majesty even though she is able to escape. Majesty is afraid to tell the police because she is afraid they won’t believe her – due to the fact that she thinks her father’s death was suspicious and has been hounding them to look [...]
