    3. I don’t like counting calories and I don’t like eating rabbit food. The Paleo’s high protein, low sugar seemed to be more my style. It took less than an hour to read John Chatham’s essentials about the Paleo diet and become convinced this is a good plan. Chatham talks as if he is in the room with me. 8. As the title states, this is a great book for Paleo beginners! It’s difficult to leave behind processed foods, grains, starches, and refined sugars and base your diet on lean meats, nuts, and plant fats, and Chatham’s book shows he understands how hard it can be to make these changes. He starts with general information about the Paleo diet, but then focuses on preparing the reader’s mind, body, and physical environment in order to follow through and make a successful shift into the Paleo d [...]

    9. This was an incredibly basic introduction to paleo. I guess the author took the word "essentials" quite literally. At 56 pages, it gives a quick overview of what the paleo diet is, two to three sentences on its history, and then basically consists of lists of foods you can and can't eat on the diet. There's a chapter or two on embracing your new "lifestyle"--all very common sense and nothing that hasn't been included in a million other diet books. A few recipes are included in the back, but I wo [...]

    10. The book, “Paleo for Beginners” is a short book on the paleolithic diet. The book contains facts, recipes, and meal plans to help the reader succeed . The paleo diet is actually one that makes sense, after all, people in the paleolithic age were not exposed to carbohydrates, dairy or processed foods. As a result, the paleo people did not have illness or obesity like there is in today’s society. The book gives the reader the types of food a person should eat and avoid. In addition, it conta [...]

    13. In John Chatham’s Paleo diet, we find a program dedicated to healthy eating through a Paleolithic diet approach, backed with research to give legitimacy to their findings, and the inevitable weight loss displayed as the by-product of following good nutritional eating habits (a refreshing change). The diet goes against the grain of what we commonly hear as the “sensible” diet approach, but goes into great detail explaining why - historically, medically, and nutritionally. I found it refresh [...]

    14. Even though I am not a Beginner, my husband and I have been following the Paleo plan for 4 months. I found this book to be very informative. The recipes are excellent, I have tried maybe half of them. I loved having all the information I needed, right there in one book. I had to research the internet when we got started. Wish I had Johns book from the beginning. If you follow the plan, the weight lose is slow and steady, we have lost collectively 85 pounds. But the most important aspect is your [...]

    15. Nice book for Paleo beginners! This is a nice book for anyone considering a Paleo-based diet. Many of the recipes are easy to follow, and are comfort-food friendly. Some of the ingredients used are exotic, but many can be found in your favorite grocery store. The Paleo diet has certain restrictions (no grains, dairy or refined sugars), but the recipes are structured so that you wouldn't miss them. The breakfast recipes are where I would most miss the restricted ingredients, but lunch and dinner re [...]

    18. I picked this book up because I’ve been curious about Paleo for a while. I was expecting a lot of scientific jargon about cavemen and the digestive system (which is what I’d gotten online) but instead found a common-sense approach to healthy eating. I was pleased to find a lot of recipes, such as burgers and waffles, which made the transition to a grain-free diet a lot easier. The book includes plenty of motivational tips and exercises (and even a caveman personality quiz) to keep you on tra [...]

    19. This is a great place to start if you are curious about Paleo eating. I enjoyed this book because it was very straight forward and to the point, whereas some diet books can be heavy on unnecessary information. An easy read, very informative and there were great recipes. Paleo is based on the way people would have eaten in the Paleolithic Era and encourages fresh, clean ingredients like fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds and lean meat. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for some great ways t [...]

    20. I bought this book when I heard about the Paleo diet, and found it very informative and easy to use. The book concisely explained how our ancestors ate differently from the way we eat now, and provided a list of foods as examples (I never knew grains and legumes are not natural!). I tried out a couple of the recipes from the book, using only paleo food and natural herb seasoning, and found that it really isn't that hard to eat the way our ancestors did. We just need to educate ourselves about th [...]

    22. I was really inspired by Paleo For Beginners. Through its motivational chapters and great explanations on why humans should only be eating lean proteins, fruits, nuts, and veggies, I really feel ready to start eating better. Great sections on meal planning and sample recipes, plus the diet is naturally gluten free which is great for me since I’ve been a celiac for the last 10 years and am always struggling to find diet plans that work for me and my gluten allergy. I can’t wait to start eatin [...]

    23. The book seemed to be a good introduction at first, but it left me with a lot of question that I had to search the internet for. The list of foods is a bit of a joke as one of the items is rattlesnake. it seems they were just looking for a lot of obscure items so they can say '117 Paleo approved foods' on the cover. As for the recipes, I haven't tried them but many seems pretty basic. Overall I would say it was a VERY basic introduction and left me wanting more.

    24. This book isn’t just for the hunter/gatherers among us. The book details a specific diet plan, but also the broader dietary principles that empower readers to craft their own weight-loss plan. As someone who knows next to nothing about nutrition, this book provides a remedial course that is both far-reaching and provides specific lists of food. It’s extremely helpful for those of us who would, given the option, eat ice cream all day long.

    25. John Chatham has written extensively on the Paleo diet, and in this book he summarizes the dietary rules of that system, producing a simple way to approach a sophisticated diet. The book is a combined cookbook and checklist, and the author makes sure to include plenty of cheap, easy to prepare ingredients, one thing that makes Chatham's book much more useful than alternative Paleo diets which expect you go go out and find alligator for every meal.

    26. At $10, I was surprised at the small size when the book arrived, yet after sitting down and reading cover to cover in one sitting I would say it is worth it. It is the most succinct and simple explanation and overview of Paleo I've read. An easy intro to those of us who are jumping in, but haven't had time to dig into the deeper books. I have a stack of books on my nightstand that I haven't touched, but I now feel a lot more confident having read this book.

    27. Well, that was a waste of time. It all could have been summarized in about a dozen pages. The rationale for some of the guidelines is pretty flimsy. While reading, I couldn't help but note that cavemen, for the most part, led brutal and short lives. Who knows if the paleo diet would have been healthful or not?

    28. I like the recipes on this book, they're simple enough for someone like me (who can't cook). Now I find myself enjoying my kitchen and actually trying to improve it by getting more gadgets that makes my life more easier. I also like the fact that my almost 2 year old can have the same meals. No more feeling sluggish! and the bonus the weight just comes off :). I just love it

    29. While it has some tasty and functional recipes, I'd question the "palaeolithic" nature of some of the included foods. Prosciutto? Cider vinegar? A long draw of the bow in my opinion. I just can't picture Oobooglunk the Paleo man making prosciutto in 10000 BC Italy. As the common emoticon goes >.>
