    1. I actually read this on the walls of the Grand Rapids Art Museum last December, and it's as stirring in book form as in the museum context. The memories of the artist's mother are emotionally complicated, yet indelible. One panel in particular ("Mindful") is among the most stirring works of contemporary art and prose I've encountered. Wilson's comic "Dead & Lost in Detroit: An Autoworker's Tale Part One" isn't listed here, but is also a stirring read.

    2. A short but moving monograph of Detroit artist Carl Wilson's linocut art, focusing on his life growing up and relationship with his mother. Beautiful work across the board, from the imagery to the words.
