I discovered this book about 30 years ago, while browsing the "self-education" books of my local library and if I had to choose the single, most influential book I've ever read, this would be my choice. I've lost count of how many times I've read it. I got to the point where, instead of constantly renewing, then returning, then borrowing it again, from the library, I ended up photo-copying most of the book, so I could re-read each section, over and over, underlining and making notes along the wa [...]

    2. One of the most affecting books I have ever read in my whole life. No book as ever given an insight into self developing like this book.I read in arabic and I still own the same copy I read since I was a kid, read it several times and still each time feels like the first time.Cornelius Hirschberg shows you how to make reading a hobby rather than a time killer, in the simplest ways possible, dividing the book into sections according to your interests whether History, Art, Music and so, but if you [...]

    3. A good book on self education. The suggested readings our out of date, but I don't know of a current book that is so rich. Talks about an ordinary, busy guy with a small budget, tackling areas of knowledge on his own. Not a snobby, "cultural" book at all.

    4. A classic of it's kind, showing how self-education may not make you wealthy but can bring a great deal of reading pleasure and intellectual enjoyment, and can be achieved by people of modest means who could never hope to go to Uni to study subjects like English or History.
