    1. I have to wonder what is in the water in Nova Scotia because their resident writers know how to create compelling and creatively crafted stories that I greatly enjoy. Her Mother's Daughter is a contemporary family story about female relationships nestled in the Cape Breton community of Louisbourg. If you have never been to Canada's Cape Breton Island, you just have to go. It's beautiful! I absolutely loved all the characters in this story even though I had an inkling of what rabbit hole I was bei [...]

    2. This is a heart-warming tale of a Cape Breton family who has been plagued by untimely death, dark secrets and the trials of every day life. As a Cape Bretoner, I appreciated the sentiment and tradition that shines through each character. Reading this made me feel closer to home. Thanks Lesley Crewe.

    3. This is the fourth book I've read by Lesley Crewe and I am really impressed by her work .She has bit of everything with a good laugh at times and some love ,joy, a little sadness which makes for a very interesting book and makes you want to look for more of her work.

    4. Originally Reviewed at Novel EscapesHer Mother's Daughter is a novel about family, friendship and sisterly bonds and is full of past mistakes, dark secrets and the love that binds. When I first read the synopsis, I was expecting a great small town family drama, and I wasn't disappointed.I haven't read a novel recently that tossed me in so many different directions. I felt like I was on a fishing boat in the harbour watching the drama unfold ashore. I was impressed that I didn't see many of the t [...]

    5. I find that many books that try and introduce many characters in the first few pages, just confuse me, right off the bat. This was not the case with this book. They were explained (and described) so well, that I followed along easily from the beginning. It struck me from the start that the writing was very good, with very different voices for the characters. Tansy was very New York and sophisticated, while Bay had stayed in Louisbourg, and reflected that. I did find it a little predictable in pl [...]

    6. Crewe has created a lovely novel. It is more chick-lit than I expected based on the description. Partway through the book, certain aspects are predictable but exactly how it happened and the outcomes are intriguing enough to keep you hooked. I planned to read it over several days but ended up reading it in an afternoon. The last half of the book is quite sad, I cried several times. There are some touching moments that are well written.Tansy is a great character, Crewe did an excellent job managi [...]

    7. I was really agitated by the relationship between Bay and Tansy. It was the same kind of tension that I feel reading a good suspense novel. Why do they have to love the same men? Who will get the guy? The women in this book are real, they can be strong but have their downfalls. They draw strength from the women in their lives. The situations the characters find themselves in and their emotions and reactions to them are plausible, which is a bit refreshing. Her Mother's Daughter reminds me a bit o [...]

    8. This was a wonderful book that really drew me in. There was a natural flow that was easy to follow as we were led from one character to another. I found the women to have a familiar feeling as I got to know them; either I recognized them from my own life, or there were parts that resonated as parts of myself. This book tells an honest story of the relationship between mother and daughter, sisters and friends, and the lengths that we will go to in an effort to protect those we love.

    9. A Family's struggle to come to terms with a teenage pregnancy, which repeats itself in two generations. An unsuspected secret is revealed!! Her motherhood had never been questioned until her daughter finds her birth certificate. Two sisters come to terms of who they are and who they hd loved or betrayed. A good read!

    10. Loving Lesley Crewe at the moment! Her stories exhibit many interwinding and complex relationships. There were some plot lines I expected, but others were a surprise. They remind me of chick-lit, however the characters and their stories are developed far beyond the romance in the novel. Great Summer Read!

    11. A Lesley Crewe novel is just a ticket to Feel-good Land. Even though this book brought me close to tears at times, it was also a happy story filled with love. It's a pretty good companion for a dull winter day.

    12. Loved this book. Lesley Crewe has such a way of drawing you into the character's lives in her books. This one did not disappoint!

    13. I felt like I was sitting in a Cape Breton kitchen when I read this book! (Which is a great feeling!) Funny characters, great setting, and a great story!

    14. Another Lesley Crewe book, I love this author! I read Like Mother Like Daughter in a single sitting with tears and tea.
